102 year old Hilda Jamieson and also Britain’s oldest skier, has finally given up her beloved skiing after 80 years. She was forced to do so after she encountered a degenerative eye condition that left her almost blind.

Although she previously managed to play a little bit longer with the help of her daughters, who guided her down the mountain, her condition has made her hang up the poles for good.

Mrs. Jamieson, who first learned the sport on homemade wooden skis in the 1930s, said “I love it so much but I’ve had a good innings,”

Her and her husband David Jamieson, who sadly passed away in 2002, were both pioneers of the sport back in Scotland. They had built the Glenshee Ski Centre to make their passion accessible to everyone and it now has 27 ski lifts, 36 runs and is billed as one of the best winter sports resorts in the UK.

The couple’s love for the sport was passed down to their 3 daughters. Helen, 69, actually went on to compete in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble and credits her parents for pushing her to make the team. “I didn’t have a choice” she recalls.

“Skiing is born in you and it will always be in you. I couldn’t live without it.”

Mrs. Jamieson, along with having 3 daughters who love the sport, has 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who more than half of a dozen have won national championships for the sport or represented Scotland.
